Erick Sandlin is a self-taught artist who works exclusively with spray paint. He lives in the Heights in Houston, Texas, by way of Texarkana, College Station, Waco and Austin. Erick is also a commercial litigation attorney at Bracewell LLP. “Because I work exclusively with spray paint and don't use brushes, I never exactly know what a painting will look like when I'm painting it. I paint in my backyard, so the humidity, the wind, paint mixture and angle of the canvas all affect what happens on the canvas. Leaves and sticks sometimes get in the painting as well. I enjoy the process and seeing each painting come to life. Each painting has a life of its own, and I let the process dictate where each painting goes. I just try to get out of the way.”
